ICC qualification
As an accredited RYA Training Centre, Oceanwest is able to offer the ICC assessment onboard our training yacht Samsara, a Beneteau Oceanis 41.1, or onboard your own yacht > 7m LWL
The ICC is often required in some European countries as proof of your competence to skipper a yacht. Whether it be for a bare boat yacht charter or for your own vessel.
If you already have the RYA Dayskipper Practical qualification then you can apply for the ICC directly without any further assessment – click here for the ICC application form
If you do not have any formal qualifications then there are two ways to get the ICC: –
1. If you are an experienced yacht skipper with a good theory knowledge, then you can undertake the ICC assessment. This is a 4 hour assessment of your theory knowledge and
practical sailing skills. You will need to have a good knowledge of the collision regulations, buoyage and pilotage, safety, navigation (plotting a 3 point fix, plotting a fix by lat / long, working out a magnetic course to steer allowing for tidal set and drift using tidal diamonds / atlas and application of leeway.
The practical sailing assessment is being able to depart a leeward berth using a bow or stern spring to spring off, come alongside a windward berth and secure the yacht, MOB recovery, picking up and securing to / slipping from mooring buoys and general sailing on all points of sail. The ICC assessment onboard our training yacht costs $995 for one person (4 hours), or $1895 for upto 3 people (6 hours). Own boat assessment for one person $795 (<100km from Bunbury) / $995 ( >100km radius from Bunbury as far north as Mindarie or as far south as Augusta). Additional people $250 pp to a maximum of 4 persons onboard for the own boat assessment.

2. If you need to brush up on / learn the theory, we offer the RYA Dayskipper Theory Online Course that will take about 40 hours of study, this gives you the required level of theory
knowledge for the ICC Assessment.
If you want to learn / brush up on your practical sailing skills, we offer the RYA Dayskipper Practical Course. Successful completion of the RYA Dayskipper practical course allows you to apply for the ICC. The Dayskipper Practical course is a great course where you will learn all about the practical side of navigation, how to use electronic chart plotters, close quarters boat handling in the marina and all forms of berthing including Mediterranean style as well. Plus how to recover a MOB, anchoring, mooring, pilotage techniques and passage planning and much more.
The cost of RYA Dayskipper Theory online course is $650 and the 5 day RYA Dayskipper practical course is $2095.
We also offer a discounted package called the Aspiring Dayskipper which is the the RYA Dayskipper theory online course and 5 day practical course for $2550 and this is what most people book when they are planning their bare boat yacht charter holiday.
